Business & Entrepreneurship: Andy Clark Wraps Up Last Lecture of the Summer with Former Student, Emily Rose

Andy Clark is the director of the Sports Management Program within the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship. He teaches sports management, marketing and events at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and directs sports business-related programs at the business college’s Department of Marketing and the School of Hospitality Leadership.
Clark has more than 30 years of experience in sports management and marketing. Prior to DePaul, he was the executive vice president for Scoutware, LLC, leading their sales and marketing efforts. Previously he held leadership positions directing sports marketing and sponsorship business groups for Edelman and Cramer-Krasselt. Clark began his career as the ticket sales manager in DePaul University’s Athletic Department.
Clark currently serves on the DePaul Athletics Advisory Board and the Midtown Educational Foundation’s Advancement Council. In 2016, he received the Driehaus College of Business Teaching Recognition Award.
Emily Rose is an Account Executive in Edelman’s Financial Communications & Capital Markets practice in New York. Emily assists in the development and execution of strategic communications and investor relations programs for her clients.
She is actively involved in client work for Jefferies, M Science, Prudential and Crux Informatics.
Emily’s day-to-day work includes assisting in the development and execution of strategic communications programs, industry research, media relations, thought leadership initiatives, conference engagement and employment, brand visibility and overall day-to-day account support.
Prior to joining Edelman in June 2016, Emily was an Investor Community Manager for Informa, a multinational publishing and events company in New York City. Emily also spent time as an Account Executive at Newbridge

Today, #NSLCSPRT learned about sports writing and production from sports writer, Aaron Cohen.
Aaron Cohen is a television writer and producer who has won 24 Emmys and a Peabody Award for his work,
collaborating with some of the biggest names in the sports and entertainment business on documentaries,
studio programs, and live broadcasts, as well as books. In 2016, he was honored with the Sports Business
Journal’s “40 Under 40 Award” – “honoring the next generation of sports leaders.”
Over the last decade, Cohen has emerged as the premiere writer in the sports television space, winning the
Dick Schaap Award for Outstanding Writing at the Sports Emmys six times, for work ranging from HBO’s
critically lauded boxing documentaries to NBC’s Olympic coverage.
Along the way, Cohen has also written and produced some of the most popular and highly acclaimed sports films and programs of recent years,
including writing three Emmy award winning documentaries – “Brooklyn Dodgers: Ghosts of Flatbush”
(HBO, 2007), “Assault in the Ring” (HBO, 2008), and “The Doctor” (NBA TV, 2013).
In live and studio programming, Cohen has worked closely with broadcaster Bob Costas for the past decade-
plus at HBO and NBC, as the head writer of NBC’s primetime coverage of the Olympic Games since 2010.
He was a member of the Peabody-Award winning production team of the 2008 Opening Ceremony at the
Beijing Olympics. Cohen was also a writer and feature producer on Costas’s critically acclaimed HBO series
“On the Record” and “Costas Now.” Cohen also has worked as a writer on various other NBC Sports
telecasts such as Wimbledon, the NHL Winter Classic and Stanley Cup Final, the Triple Crown, U.S. Open,
and the New York City Marathon.
Elsewhere in sports television, Cohen also does work for the Major League Baseball Network and NFL
Network as a writer on various series and specials, and back at ESPN, has been a writer and producer on the
ESPY Awards, most notably as a contributor to the annual “Arthur Ashe Courage Award” presentation. In
2015, Cohen collaborated with Caitlyn Jenner on her widely lauded acceptance speech on the show, which
was later turned into a Google commercial.
In the print sphere, Cohen collaborated with Michael D. Eisner, the former CEO of the Walt Disney
Company, on the book “Working Together: Why Great Partnerships Succeed” (Harper Business, September
2010), an intimate look at successful duos in the business world and beyond such as Warren Buffett and
Charlie Munger, Bill and Melinda Gates, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, and Joe Torre and Don Zimmer.
Cohen previously assisted Eisner with his memoir “Camp” (Warner Books, 2005). He also collaborated with
the basketball star and ESPN personality Jalen Rose on his best-selling memoir, “Got to Give the People
What They Want” (Crown, 2015).
Cohen graduated from Harvard University in 2000, where he was an executive at The Harvard Crimson and
a sportscaster for the school’s radio station WHRB. He lives in New York City with his wife Miriam, an
attorney and director of human resources at Uncommon Schools, a charter school management organization,
and their daughters Sabrina and Lyla.

Throughout our sessions, students in all of our programs get to partake in a variety of activities dedicated to helping them grow as leaders. During today’s session, students participated in Commitment in Action, an activity that teaches students to make a decision and stick to it no matter how embarrassed or uncomfortable they feel. In this activity, the students were challenged to create a unique walk which they would do in the middle of two lines of students, as pictured above.

Alex Diedrich Managed Service Consultant, Sprinklr
Alex Diedrich is a Managed Services Consultant at Sprinklr. He came to Sprinklr by way of Kimberly Clark in Wisconsin, where I was a Community Manager. He moved to NYC about 2 years ago for my current job at Sprinklr. Before starting his career in technology, he attended a small state university in Wisconsin, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He also participated in the Sports & Entertainment Management program through the NSLC summer 2010 here at Fordham University.
Sean Donnelly Community Manager, RG/A
Sean Donnelly is a Community Manager and Strategist at R/GA managing the social media platforms and assisting the strategy team for Verizon Wireless and Fios. Before joining R/GA in November, Sean was a Digital Specialist at Taylor Strategy managing the social strategy for industry leaders such as Guinness, Jordan Brand, and Procter & Gamble. He received a B.A. in Journalism with a minor in Business from Penn State University in 2015. Sean developed a passion for the evolution of social media and how brands can engage with passionate audiences in a digital age.
Bo Gan Analyst, HPS Investment Partners
Bo Gan grew up and went to high school in Toledo, Ohio. He attended school at Boston College after, double majoring in finance and accounting. His first job out of college was at BDO USA LLP as a Valuation Associate, where he assessed the financial performance of various companies to reach an enterprise value. He recently transitioned to a position at HPS Investment Partners, a private equity firm, where he currently monitors the company’s assets under management and makes investing and financing recommendations for the company. Bo was a student with the NSLC’s Business program at Northwestern University and returned as a Team Advisor to this program at Fordham two years ago. In his free time, Bo enjoys traveling, playing sports, biking, or watching a good movie.
Emily Singleton Trading Desk, Jane Street
Emily Singleton graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in May 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Quantitative Finance. In summer of 2017, she interned at Gurtin Municipal Bond Management in Solana Beach, CA as their Quantitative Research Intern. She will begin her post-graduate career at Jane Street, a proprietary trading firm headquartered in NYC, on their Trading Desk Operations team.
Ted Barrett Analyst, Whitehall & Company
Ted Barrett graduated from the University of Chicago in March 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography. He joined Whitehall & Company in 2016 as an investment banking Analyst. Whitehall is a boutique investment bank primarily focused on financing both conventional (gas, coal, biomass) and renewable power (wind, solar, hydro) projects, as well as other projects in the infrastructure sector. Whitehall’s services include execution of mergers & acquisitions, financial advisory, and debt and equity placement.
