As you begin Day 1 of NSLC at Fordham University, you will likely have a whole range of questions and emotions regarding what exactly you’ve gotten yourself into. Certainly, most people your age do not spend 10 days of their summer vacation at a leadership program, which might lead you to believe that you are entering “nerd camp.” In reality, most people of all ages and backgrounds have a vague idea of what personal leadership really is, so whether you realize it yet or not, what you are embarking on is a truly unique and potentially transformative experience… one that you will likely remember with reverence for the rest of your life. If you are nervous or uncertain, that is all about your past and the self-definitions you’ve accumulated over time. Your potential as a leader is mostly about your vision for the future along with your present moment willingness to redefine yourself based on a possibility rather than a limitation. Your invitation for tonight’s Opening Ceremony is to begin that process by getting clear as why you are here. We look forward to discovering with you. Welcome!!
